This morning I went to have my first massage ever, and to my surprise I quite enjoyed the experience, even though it did hurt at times!
I have already learnt that having a professional quality massage would be good for me as the process can help to release the toxins which get trapped in our bodies, mainly because of the type of diet we have in the western world.
Most of us consume much more food than we really need of which a large proportion is processed in some way. Simple things like bacon, milk, cheese and bread are all processed as are most tinned food, takeaway meals, biscuits, sweets and most items that are perishable. These chemicals which are added during processing are often stored in our bodies as toxins as that is exactly what they are!
Even things like eggs, most meat and vegetables are also infected with antibiotics drugs which are administered to cattle, sheep, pigs and a whole range of poultry so that they do not catch diseases which are common in modern agriculture because of the intense way these things are farmed.
Those chemicals all add to the toxin we consume. Add onto them all the medicine, pain killers and residual chemicals from hair spray, cleaning materials and stuff we put on our skin in the form of creams and makeup – all add up to additions that the body was not built to be subjected to in a large way.
To make the situation even worse, we smoke and drink alcohol, and for many spend part of our days travelling when we absorb car fumes and other chemicals released into that environment.
Even our tap water has added chemicals to purify it. Often fluoride is added as well and sadly, perhaps worst of all, is that a large proportion of our water is taken from rivers and reservoirs which are loaded with chemicals from the air and that run off from the land. A great example is the tons of fertilizer, insecticides and weed killers which are used in commercial farming today. They evaporate into the environment or get washed off the land into our rivers, contaminating them.
Without wanting to cause alarm there is also the issues of what happens when this multitude of different chemical get mixed together and chemical reactions takes place, creating other chemicals and poisons!
Most of these things on their own are within the capability of our bodies to deal with, but put together they put a huge strain on our cleansing, immune and nutritional systems to process. Our bodies apparently do their best to remove them but a few are always left, which over a period of time appear to be accumulated in the body fats in our system.
As much as we should avoid these things, in this modern world it is almost impossible to achieve that goal. Instead we can either chose to accept this and wait for the resulting damage to appear, or we can do our best to reduce the amount of toxins we consume and also do what we can to assist their removal.
One of the massage therapies is a lymphatic system drainage massage which helps remove toxins from the lymph system. I did not have one of those today but am planning to do so soon. My masseur Julie explained to me that this therapy can actually make some people feel quite ill the next day. This is because the massage process causes the lymph nodes to expunge lots of toxins which get back into our system before they are removed. It is these flushes of toxins which can make some people feel ill.
Anyway, my massage was very interesting and I learnt a lot from Julie about the science behind massaging and how it can help not just my muscle system, but also help to remove toxins from my body. Most of what she told me confirmed what I had already read about, giving me even greater faith in her ability to help me.
I very pleased that she believes that the pain in my back is a muscular problem caused by a deterioration of my core muscle system which can be addressed and dealt with. My concern has been of course, that this was a further symptom of my cancer but I am relieved that that is unlikely.
She has recommended that I try Palates which helps to build the core muscle system. I have the name of someone she recommends who Julie says is a real professional and will help me to understand what I need to do to achieve that improvement. She also suggested Yoga as another way of helping me.
Together these exercises will improve the oxygen to my blood (cancer does not like that) and also reduce the amount of stress that I appear to be under. I’m optimistic that these things will help and have a very positive attitude about trying them out. I’ll keep you informed.
Anyway, enough for today, I’ll let you get on with your exciting lives. But just one word of warning – remember you cannot survive unless you look after your body – the older you get, the harder it is to repair.
Enjoy the day,
Regards
